Dear Delaware County,
My name is Siddiq Kamara, and it is with a profound sense of purpose and hope that I announce my candidacy for Sheriff of Delaware County in the upcoming 2025 election.
I have spent my life and career in service to my community and our country. As a former member of the Pennsylvania National Guard, a former Police Officer, and a Special Agent with the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General, I have gained a clear understanding of the challenges and potential within law enforcement. Through these roles, I have seen firsthand the positive impact that trust, transparency, and community-centered approaches can have on public safety and community relationships. These values will be the cornerstone of my service as Sheriff.
This decision is deeply personal. In 2021, my eight-year-old cousin, Fanta, lost her life due to the actions of improperly trained law enforcement officers—an unimaginable tragedy that has left a lasting impact on my family and me.
After a high school football game in Sharon Hill, gunfire rang and four people were caught in police crossfire, one of them being Fanta, who unfortunately did not survive her injuries. An investigation revealed that police officers had recklessly fired 25 shots at a car they wrongly believed was involved in the incident. This devastating mistake led to their prosecution, but nothing could bring Fanta back or undo the pain we endured.
Amid this grief, Fanta’s mother, Tenneh Kromah, and I channeled our sorrow into action. On what would have been Fanta’s 10th birthday, we founded the Fanta Bility Foundation. Our mission is to ensure Fanta is never forgotten, to advocate for Fanta’s Law—a Pennsylvania bill aimed at improving police training statewide—and to create a legacy that reflects Fanta’s bright, kind spirit.
Her passing has made it clear to me that we need systemic change to prevent such tragedies from happening to other families in our community. I am committed to building a Sheriff’s Office focused on transparency, empathy, and accountability, where the highest standards of justice and safety are met for all residents.
